Job Description
Mandate
The Provincial Medical Director provides clinical leadership for the INSPIRED program.
The position works in a co-leadership relationship with the INSPIRED Provincial Manager and in partnership with provincial and zonal medical and operational leaders across Nova Scotia Health (NSH) to support consistent program delivery and ongoing improvement.
Responsibilities
Working in a co-leadership model, the Provincial Medical Director is responsible for:
- Providing clinical leadership for the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the INSPIRED program across current and future NSH sites, consistent with NSH provincial strategy
- Advising on INSPIRED program planning, budget, resource allocation, and priority setting
- Providing direction to the four INSPIRED Zone Medical Leads in implementing program policies and standards, monitoring outcomes, and addressing clinical risks and issues.
- Supporting annual quality audits and reviews, including review of findings and advice on follow-up actions
- Collaborating with zonal medical and operational leads to advise on clinician recruitment and succession planning within the program
- Ensuring clinical, academic, and research directions align with the mandate of the INSPIRED program and the mission of NSH
- Building and maintaining relationships with local and provincial partners to improve patient safety and continuity of care across care settings and providers
- Co-leading quarterly provincial INSPIRED team meetings and attending monthly zonal INSPIRED team meetings, as required
- Participating in regular meetings with the Clinical Network and Central Zone operational leadership teams
Expected Hours
The term for this leadership position is for three years. Compensation will be based on a .2 FTE (1 day per week) commitment paid in equal monthly installments. The incumbent will also be required to undergo an annual performance appraisal process.
Remuneration
$50,000/per year.
Qualifications
- MD licensed in Nova Scotia and privileged with Nova Scotia Health
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant work experience
- Canadian credentials or equivalents in Respirology, or Internal Medicine including interest in respirology. Palliative Care experience is an asset.
- Member of or eligible for cross appointment in Division of Respirology
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills
