The Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University and Mental Health and Addictions, Central Zone, Nova Scotia Health, invites expressions of interest from Family Physicians and Internal Medicine Specialists who would like to be considered for current and future Mental Health Hospitalist opportunities within the Mental Health Program.
This posting is intended to establish a candidate pool of qualified physicians for potential permanent, temporary, part-time, full-time, and locum opportunities that may arise on the general psychiatric inpatient units. While there may not be an immediate vacancy available at the time of application, candidates whose qualifications and interests align with future service needs may be contacted as opportunities become available.
Job Description
The role involves a unique team-based approach to inpatient care, where Mental Health Hospitalists provide comprehensive, compassionate, high-quality care and support patients as active participants in their treatment. Physicians work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and are expected to demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility, and strong self-direction.
Future opportunities may range from 0.5 to 0.95 FTE, and may include:
• Permanent appointments
• Term appointments
• Part-time positions
• Full-time positions
• Locum opportunities

Qualifications
The successful applicant will have the following qualifications:
• Medical degree and current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
• Possession of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) designation or equivalent, or eligibility to sit for the CFPC examination.
• Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain clear records of patient evaluations and clinical reasoning.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
• Eligibility for medical staff privileges with Nova Scotia Health.
