Community Details

Clare is a vibrant coastal municipality located in southwestern Nova Scotia, along the shores of St. Marys Bay. Known as the heart of Acadian culture in the province, Clare is a predominantly French-speaking community where Acadian heritage is proudly preserved and celebrated through language, traditions, and festivals such as Festival Acadien de Clare.

The area is made up of a series of small, close-knit fishing villages stretching along the coastline, offering a peaceful rural lifestyle with strong community connections. Fishing, particularly lobster and scallop harvesting, plays a central role in the local economy, alongside small businesses and tourism. Clare is also home to Université Sainte-Anne, the province’s only French-language university, which contributes to the region’s cultural vitality and educational opportunities.

Residents and visitors alike enjoy Clare’s natural beauty, including scenic ocean views, beaches, and outdoor activities such as boating, kayaking, and hiking. With its rich cultural identity, welcoming atmosphere, and slower pace of life, Clare offers a unique blend of heritage and coastal living within Nova Scotia.
