Company Description

The Department of Psychiatry of Dalhousie University and Mental Health and Addictions, Central Zone, NSHA has an excellent opportunity for a family physician or internal medicine specialist to work on the general psychiatric units within the Mental Health Program in Halifax.

Job Description

This is an opportunity in Mental Health Hospitalist Medicine.

The position would involve a unique team approach to inpatient care where Mental Health Hospitalists provide comprehensive, compassionate high-quality care, which involves patients as active participants in their own care.  All aspects of the position would require the physician to work with multi-disciplinary teams in an enthusiastic manner with the capacity for self-direction.

This is a 0.8 FTE position. There would be the opportunity to work an additional 0.2 FTE with the correction services. Base compensation is pro-rated to FTE level and is in alignment with the APP contract.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications:

  • Medical degree and current registration or eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia 
  • Possession of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) designation or equivalent, or eligibility to sit for the CFPC examination
  • Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to maintain clear records of patient evaluations and clinical thought process 
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Must be eligible for medical staff privileges with the Nova Scotia Health Authority
