The Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH), in Sydney, NS, is seeking a full-time neonatologist to join their team. The successful candidate will join the current 6 physician Pediatrics team in Eastern zone. The CBRH has a 10 bed Neonatal Intensive care unit along with an 8-bed pediatrics unit. On average 1000 deliveries take place at the CBRH each year with numbers steadily increasing. The opportunity is available immediately.
CBRH opened its door to patients in 1995. Now, it is the second largest acute care facility in Nova Scotia that serves more than 200,000 patients a year. It is part of a four-hospital complex that also includes Glace Bay, New Waterford Consolidated, and Northside General Hospitals. Located in the historic town of Sydney, CBRH has 162 acute care beds, 36 emergency beds, 23 intermediate and critical care beds, 40 maternal child beds, 52 mental health and addiction beds, and nine palliative care beds. The hospital provides a range of primary and secondary services through in-patient, outpatient, and community-based programs.

Job Description
Responsibilities
- Responsibilities: Assist in delivery and care of patients at any gestational age, however long term care >25 wks
- In house 7.5 hr per weekday to cover all neonatal services in NICU LDR/OR, Mother baby unit and perinatal clinic. In house coverage is split with second neonatologist.
- Teaching; residents and students – there is a renumeration for teaching
Expected Hours
- 37.5 hours per week
- On call – split all calls with other neonatologists to provide 365 days neonatal coverage. On call is on first basis for very sick neonates and deliveries <30 wks, on second base when pediatrician on call that covers NICU needs help
- On calls are not 1:2 but in blocks when in service in NICU.
Qualifications
Eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
Eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC)
