About the Opportunity

Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) is seeking a 0.8 FTE generalist obstetrician/gynecologist to join the team. The seven-person group provides full spectrum OB/GYN practice including routine and high risk prenatal and intrapartum care, office and perioperative gynecology including open and minimally invasive surgery, and colposcopy.  Physicians also have an opportunity to be a preceptor for medical students and residents. Compensation is via a contractual Alternate payment plan. In addition, on-call stipends and other incentives are available through the Master Agreement between the Province of Nova Scotia and Doctors Nova Scotia.

The obstetric service delivers approximately 700 babies per year, supported by a Level II nursery and a five-member pediatrics group. On-call is 1:7. Maternal-Fetal Medicine and NICU services are available at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, one hour away.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity join an established office with three other OB/GYNS. Overhead expenses are shared equitably within this group.

 

About Valley Regional Hospital

VRH is a 137-bed facility that provides inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and satellite care to a catchment area of approximately 80,000 residents. It serves the people of Kings and Annapolis Counties, and provides specialty services as a referral centre for the Annapolis Valley and other areas of Western Nova Scotia.

 

Job Description

  • full scope of practice as an obstetrician/gynecologist providing care to the patients within the Western Zone
  • participating in call and able to respond to urgent matters within 20 minutes of being called
  • provide support to your own site but also to others in the Western Zone if required, which will include day-time coverage and occasional overnight/weekend coverage
  • responsible to the Zone Department Head for Obstetrics & Gynecologist for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority
