Vascular Neurologist - Locum

The Department of Medicine at Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health is inviting applications for a 1-year full-time locum position as a Vascular Neurologist in the Division of Neurology at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The Division of Neurology is one of 15 divisions within the Department of Medicine and provides tertiary care services to patients throughout the Atlantic Provinces. The Division supports an active Royal College adult neurology residency training program.

Job Description

The Stroke Program is based at the Halifax Infirmary Hospital (part of the QEII Health Sciences Centre) and provides 24/7 hyperacute stroke care - including TNK and endovascular thrombectomy - to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. We have an interdisciplinary Acute Stroke Unit with a full complement of evidence-based services and operate a five day-per-week outpatient Neurovascular Clinic. The Stroke Program has an excellent working relationship with Neurosurgery, Interventional Radiology and Physiatry and is a member of the Canadian Stroke Consortium Research Group.

The successful applicant will play an active role in the clinical and academic activities of the Stroke Program at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Clinical duties will include alternating service provision on the Stroke Unit, the Neurovascular Clinic, and the daytime Neurology Emergency Service. Other clinical responsibilities will include participation in night and weekend emergency neurology call (with resident support) and participation in undergraduate and postgraduate neurology teaching. Though primarily a clinical position, there are opportunities for self-generated research projects, participation in ongoing clinical trials, and other multidisciplinary research studies.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold FRCPC (or equivalent) certification in Adult Neurology and must have completed a minimum one-year fellowship in Vascular Neurology / Stroke Medicine.

Candidates must be eligible for appropriate specialty licensure in Nova Scotia.

An attractive remuneration package through an alternative funding plan will apply. Academic appointment ranking will be based on qualifications and experience.
