Company Description

The Department of Medicine at Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health is inviting
applications for a 1-2 year locum position as an academic Neurologist / Epileptologist in
the Division of Neurology at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
There is potential opportunity for this locum to be extended or changed to a continuing
appointment in future.

The Division of Neurology is one of 15 divisions within the Department of Medicine and
provides tertiary care services to patients throughout the Atlantic Provinces. The Division
supports an active Royal College adult neurology residency training program.

Job Description

The successful applicant will play an active role in the clinical and academic activities of
the Epilepsy Program at the Halifax Infirmary Hospital (part of the QEII Health Sciences
Centre). Our institution has an active comprehensive epilepsy surgery program with a
four bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). Clinical duties will include alternating service
provision on the EMU, the outpatient Epilepsy Clinic and the EEG laboratory. All
members of the Division are involved in providing scheduled coverage of the inpatient
neurology ward and the daytime neurology emergency / consultation service. Other
responsibilities include participation in night and weekend neurology on-call (with
resident support) and participation in undergraduate and postgraduate neurology
teaching. Though primarily a clinical position, there are opportunities for self-generated
research projects, involvement in clinical trials, and other multidisciplinary research
studies.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold FRCPC (or equivalent) certification in Neurology. They will also
have completed a recognized post-FRCPC Fellowship program, and have specific
training in epilepsy, electroencephalography, and presurgical epilepsy evaluation,
including planning and management of invasive EEG, etomidate speech and memory
testing, electrocorticography, vagus nerve stimulation and deep brain stimulation.
Candidates must be eligible for appropriate specialty licensure in Nova Scotia.
