Job Description
The community of Amherst is seeking a 0.6 FTE physician to join the Mental Health and Addiction Program (MHAP) to work within a collaborative inter-professional clinical team, providing evidence-informed Addiction Medicine care and in an outpatient setting.

Responsibilities
- Conduct a patient-centered comprehensive assessment.
- Make pharmacotherapeutic recommendations as part of the overall care plan.
- Develop an initial case formulation and working diagnosis and establish goals of care co-creating with patients, clinical team, and family with consent.
- Help to meet clinical care needs where gaps exist.
- Facilitate connection to additional services and supports.
- Provide patients with support and encouragement to participate and make decisions in their own care, using a trauma-informed approach. Care is directed in a culturally relevant and appropriate manner.
Expected Hours
- 0.6 FTE
- 22.5 hours/week
- 46 weeks/year
In-person daytime office-based Addiction Medicine care including virtual care as required; patient contact by physician during normal office hours; case management and care coordination with referring clinicians and appropriate Mental Health and Addiction Program services. This FTE could be shared among more than one physician.
Remuneration
- 150,000 to 200,000 CAD
- Remuneration type is either Alternative Payment Plan (APP) - Specialty

Qualifications
- All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
- All applicants must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
- Current Canadian certification in Addiction Medicine is an asset. Enhanced compensation is available with certification in Addiction Medicine
- Experience working in an Addiction Medicine setting is an asset, but not a requirement. With no clinical experience, training and mentoring opportunities are available.
