Company Description

The Department of Medicine at Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health seeks applications for a Palliative Medicine Physician in the Division of Palliative Medicine at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, Nova Scotia. This is a 0.6 FTE position, and may have opportunity for FTE increase in future.

The Division of Palliative Medicine is one of 15 divisions within the Department of Medicine and is a leader of tertiary clinical services in the Atlantic Provinces. In addition to playing an important clinical role in the Department, division members have excellent opportunities for collaborative educational and research activities to facilitate rewarding and fulfilling career development.

Job Description

The Division of Palliative Medicine is an integrated palliative medicine service which practices in a shared care model. Physicians provide clinical services in a variety of settings, including outpatient clinics, home visits, acute care facilities, and a 12-bed specialized palliative care unit.

We have two active postgraduate training programs, including the Royal College Subspecialty in Palliative Medicine and the College of Family Physicians of Canada Enhanced Skills Program in Palliative Care.

The successful applicant will be expected to work well within an interdisciplinary team and demonstrate a commitment to the pursuit of academic palliative medicine with a focus on clinical teaching, education, and research.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold either FRCPC certification in Internal Medicine or CCFP certification, as well as either Royal College subspecialty certification in Palliative Medicine or a certificate of added competence in Palliative Care (or equivalent certifications). Candidates must be eligible for specialty licensure in Nova Scotia and must be able to independently commute to a variety of care settings served by our service.

An attractive remuneration package through an alternative funding plan will apply. Academic appointment ranking will be based on qualifications and experience. The expected start date for the position is July 1, 2025, or other mutually agreeable date.
