Company Description

New Germany is a rural inland community which is the centre of a group of communities in Lunenburg County on South Shore of Nova Scotia.  This riverside community straddles the shores of the LaHave River, and is just 25 minutes from Bridgewater.  The local medical center is looking for a family physician to join the collaborative practice.  Currently there are two part-time physicians and two nurse practitioners at New Germany and Area Medical Centre. There is easy access to lab and x-ray services and a network of supportive specialist colleagues from the nearby regional center.  The community is enthusiastic and eager to make new physicians feel welcome and can assist in finding accommodations if needed.

Job Description

Services: 

  • Alternative Level of Care unit (12 beds)
  • cardiac respiratory services
  • diagnostic imaging (X-ray)
  • emergency medicine
  • family medicine
  • maternal and child services
  • medical unit (six beds)
  • mental health and addiction services day program
  • midwife clinic
  • occupational therapy
  • palliative care consultation service
  • physiotherapy
  • restorative care unit (12 beds)

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Examine patients and take their histories, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures;

  • Advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention
  • Consultation and referral to other medical practitioners
  • Act as a patient’s advocate
  • Prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations
  • Report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases as per Nova Scotia Public Health requirements

Expected Hours

  • full-time or part-time
