Company Description

Nova Scotia Health (NSH) is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Zone Medical Site Lead (MSL)for Cobequid Community Health Center (CCHC) within the Central Zone (CZ).  The CCHC Medical Site Lead will function in a co leadership relationship with the site and service-based health services Director(s) to manage the daily operations of the CCHC. Within the context of the overall delivery of healthcare services within the Zone. The MSL will report directly to the CZ Medical Executive Director (ZMED) with accountability to the CZ Vice President Operations (VPO).

Job Description

Mandate and Accountability:

The MSL works in a co–leadership relationship with the Site Director(s) and is accountable directly to CZMED. The MSL works with the local physicians to ensure a high standard of patient care is maintained by the medical staff, in accordance with the law, the NSH Medical Staff By-laws, the Rules and Regulations, policies and procedures, licensing and accreditation standards. The MSL brings a clinician perspective to all relevant operational and administrative issues related to the function of the site with particular focus on quality and patient safety. 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that medical staff working at the sites are compliant with the NSH Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and regulations, policies and procedures;
  • Brings forward issues and perspectives of Medical Staff at the applicable site to the ZMED for consideration and/or resolution;
  • Work with Co-leader(s) and applicable staff at the site to oversee daily operations and address issues as they arise;
  • Co-chairs the CCHC site’s Clinical Affairs Committee (CAC) with Director co-lead;
  • Serves as Physician Lead for Emergency Preparedness activities;
  • Consistently and actively participates in CCHC redevelopment (and sometimes broader zonal development) meetings with co-lead(s);
  • Is a core member of, and actively participates in, the Zonal Medical Advisory Committee (ZMAC);
  • Assists in managing site overcapacity issues by being the point of contact for medical staff;
  • Conducts and attends regular meetings as assigned by the ZMED;
  • Responds to patient safety issues as alerted via Patient Relations or the Safety Incident Management System (SIMS) for the site;
  • Participates in the monitoring of standards, quality, and utilization of resources of the site; champions quality improvement initiatives at the site;
  • Participates in any clinical services planning for the Site and broader Zone;
  • Participates in recruitment/retention activities at the site;
  • Participates in ongoing Leadership development which may include executive coaching;
  • Provide consultation, as required, to the ZMED, VPO and/or Zone Leadership team;
  • Has a visible presence onsite;
  • Meets regularly with the ZMED;
  • Meets and collaborates regularly with Zonal Department Heads, especially as it relates to Departmental members on medical staff at the CCHC;
  • Meets and collaborates regularly with other Zone Medical Site Leads;

Meets regularly with the applicable Medical Affairs Lead or Director regarding medical staff and operational issues at the Site.
 

Compensation: 
Based on qualifications and estimated to be 0.1-0.2 FTE

  • Currently holds NSHA privileges 
  • Has leadership experience
    • 5 -7 years of progressive leadership experience is considered an asset)
    • co-leadership experience is considered an asset
  • Demonstrates expertise in the areas of:

  • team building and collaboration
