Company Description

The Division of Cardiac Surgery at Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health are seeking to hire a full time academic Cardiac surgeon to be based at the QEII Health Sciences Center (QEII HSC), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The QEII HSC is the tertiary and quaternary care referral center for approximately two million people in the Atlantic provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland.

Job Description

The successful candidate will join 10 other surgical specialists in our university-based academic clinical practice.

The Attending is expected to play an active educator role in the education of undergraduate medical students, residents and fellows of the Division of Cardiac Surgery and nursing staff (e.g., simulator training) of the ICU.

The successful applicant will report to the Head of the Division of Cardiac Surgery. We value maintaining a working environment that is optimal for the delivery of excellent health care and the successful hire will actively engage in personal coaching/leadership training.

Compensation is through participation in the Dalhousie University, Department of Surgery, Academic Funding Plan (AFP).

Qualifications

To qualify, the candidate must be certified in Cardiac Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is expected to have skills in coronary artery bypass grafting, aortic valve replacement, Bentall procedures and Type A repairs in addition to valve sparing root procedures and cardiac transplantation.

The successful candidate will have at least one-year fellowship in minimally invasive mitral valve repair and will be able to manage the intensive care unit. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in Nova Scotia and have a PhD; participation in research is expected and a requirement.
