Company Description

The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health invite applications for a fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Arthroplasty Surgeon to join their health care team as a permanent 1.0 FTE.

The Dartmouth General Hospital is an acute care hospital with a 24-hour emergency, inpatient medical, surgical and critical care units that services approximately 120,000 people in Dartmouth and eastern Halifax Regional Municipality areas.

The successful applicant would be part of the Alternate Funding Plan for the Department of Surgery and would be eligible for full salary support (1.0 FTE).

Job Description

Research duties may include recruiting and entering patients into on-going clinical trials, supervising students, residents, and fellows with their research efforts, and initiating new clinical research projects in conjunction with the members of the Division of Orthopaedic surgery.

Participation in committees with clinical, educational, research or other mandates is required. The Division holds monthly meetings as well as monthly journal club and weekly grand rounds.

The successful applicant would be expected to take rotating adult trauma call with the remainder of the Orthopaedic group in Dartmouth.

Qualifications

Candidates require an MD or equivalent and an active Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) in Orthopaedic surgery with additional recognized fellowship training in Orthopaedic Arthroplasty surgery and must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Nova Scotia.

The successful candidate is expected to perform a high volume of hip and knee primary and revision surgery and have an academic interest in teaching and research in addition to clinical practice.

The successful candidate must possess or be willing to pursue research skills through an advanced postgraduate degree (Master’s/PhD). The applicant will be expected to participate in and potentially lead research initiatives.
