Hants Shore Community Health Centre is seeking a family physician to join this group practice consisting of one other family physician, a family practice nurse, and supportive administrative staff.

This is a full scope practice providing care for patients at all stages of life. The clinic is fully integrated on the MedAccess Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. Patient profile is mostly elderly and chronic disease, although the surrounding area is growing with young families who may also be seeking a family physician. 

This is a lovely, community managed clinic, operated by a board of directors. Overhead is extremely low and competitive for the central zone area, and includes billing support, large office space (with windows and a view of the Minas Basin!) a family practice nurse, full EMR access, 2 part time receptionists, and more. This clinic is also co-located within a community daycare centre, a small community food bank and book sharing corner, and more. The clinic itself has a large boardroom, small kitchen and a private back entrance. 

New physician to this clinic will be expected to take patients off the Need A Family Practice registry. This position is eligible for the LFM compensation model as well as the rural DHW incentive for new-to-practice physicians. 

This position is also an eligible Return of Service location for physicians on the IMG ROS program at Dalhousie. 

This clinic is located in a beautiful rural location just across from the Minas Basin, and is part of a larger group of community-led initiatives. Job Description

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Examine patients and take their histories, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures
• Advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention
• Consultation and referral to other medical practitioners
• Act as a patient’s advocate
• Prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations
• Report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases as per Nova Scotia Public Health requirements

Expected Hours

Full time and part time available

Qualifications

• All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
• All family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
• Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
