Job Description

Valley Regional Hospital is seeking a full-time adult psychiatrist to join the day hospital on a 0.5 full time equivalency (FTE) basis as well as work 0.5 FTE in the community adult outpatient services. Join Nova Scotia's thriving healthcare ecosystem, where your expertise is valued and your contributions drive innovative, compassionate care for generations to come. The successful candidate will work as part of a collaborative community adult outpatient team as well as provide psychiatric care along with social worker, occupational therapist, recreation therapy and nurses in the Valley Day Hospital. The psychiatry service supports rural satellite clinics for mental health and addictions, seniors mental health, community outreach teams, clozapine, and depot clinics, consult services for adults with neurodevelopmental disorders, consultation with medical units and emergency departments and full Child and Adolescent Clinical Services. This is a cohesive team with members from diverse backgrounds dedicated to providing quality care.

Responsibilities

  • provide care to patients over the age of 19 who need psychiatric care but don't need to stay overnight in an acute care unit
  • participate in program development
  • offer consultations to other physicians and rural clinics
  • contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities
  • contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities as assigned
  • provide care and coordination of community-based care, and secondary and tertiary level health care. 
  • Operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority
  • participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities
  • Responsible to the Zone Psychiatry Department Head for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice

Expected Hours

  • Permanent Full-Time

Remuneration

  • $350,000 - 400,000
